 PARUPPU  PAYASAM



Here is the recipe of Paruppu payasam or Moong dal payasam.


Serves : 2
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 45 minutes


Ingredients:

Moong Dal : 1 cup (cup measures 75gms)
Jaggery       : 2 cups (grated)
Water          : for cooking dal,melting jaggery & adjusting the consistency approximately 6 cups                         + 2 tbsp
Coconut      : 1/4 cup
Raw rice     : 1 tbsp
Cardamom : 3
Ghee            : 1 Tbsp
Cashew Nut: 10 nos. (bite pieces)
Raisins        : 10 nos.



Steps:

1.  Melt Jaggery in 2 tbsp water, filter it and keep aside.


2. Grind coconut, raw rice and cardamom together to a coarse paste.


3. Dry roast moong dal and wash it till the colour of water is clear.

4. Boil 5 cups water add the washed moong dal and cook till mashy. It will take 25-30 mins in normal vessel. If you wish you can pressure cook the dal.


5. After dal is cooked add the remaining 1 cup water and the melted jaggery and boil it for 10 mins. When the dal and jaggery comes together add the coconut paste and cook for another 5 minutes. Now the payasam is ready.


6. Last step is to heat ghee in a tadka pan fry the cashew and raisins till golden brown and add it to the payasam and serve hot.



Note:

  • You can add a pinch of salt to enhance the sweetness of payasam.
  • Water and jaggery measurement can be modified as per need.
  • Ghee fried coconut pieces can be added for extra flavour.
